Alan Gould @ The Brett Whiteley Studio

I've been to The Brett Whitely Studio at Surry Hills to attend poetry event. As matter of fact I didn't know much about this event but marry, my teacher who teaches me everything about adjusting in Australia, invited me to the poetry club.

It wasn't easy to walk to get the studio in raining and windy day, however air was so fresh and many greens along the Devonshire street. It reminded me about my home town in Korea.

When I got there some staff were testing microphone system and arranging sits. After few minuites later Mary arrived at studio and we just looked around inside of studio. The studio was the workplace and home of Australian artist Brett Whiteley(1939-1992). I could see his photo at 2nd floor which used to be his living area and he looked like a rock star. Interestingly I found old style black telephone at there and when I picked up the phone I could hear interview sound with Brett Whiteley with ABC Radio.

And there was something else such as his unfinished paintings, art equipment, collections of reference books, music collection and sketchbooks. Brett Whiteley bought the former warehouse in 1985 and converted it into a studio and exhibition space. He lived there from 1988 to 1992, the year he died in Thirroul. (see location)

This is the Alan Gould, today's writer.
Alan Gould was born in London from English-Icelandic parents, and came to Australia in 1966. He has an bachelor of arts from Australian National University.
From 1973 he started writing poetry and fiction and in 1981 he won the NSW Premiers Prize for Poetry.
Other Awards include; Foundation of Australian Literary Studies Medal for the Best Book of the Year, 1985, for The Man Who Stayed Below, National Book Council 'Banjo' Award for Fiction 1992 for To The Burning City, The Phillip Hodgins Memorial Medal For Literature, 1999 and The Royal Blind Society Audio Book Of The Year (for The Tazyrik Year,) 1999. He has held several fellowships from The Australia Council.
